District 4 Councilor
Sarai Rivera of 7 Lucian Street, a clinical therapist and co-senior pastor of Christian Community Church, is serving her third two-year term as District Four Councilor.
District Four generally includes the following neighborhoods: Green Island, Kelley Square, lower Vernon Hill, the Canal District south of Kelley Square, Four Corners, Main South, South Worcester, Piedmont, Crown Hill, downtown west of Main Street, Gardner/Kilby/Hammond, Clark University, Webster Square and Highland Street east of Park Avenue.
She is a graduate of Doherty Memorial High School. She received a BS in Psychology from Worcester State University, an MSW from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, CT and a Doctorate of Ministries (D.Min.) in Urban Studies and Theology from Gordon-Cornwell College in South Hamilton, MA.
As Chairperson of the Standing Committe on Public Health & Human Services, she and her committee members consider all matters pertaining to public health, the elderly, veterans, human rights, the equality of women, the disabled and community development block grant funding.
Councilor Rivera believes that building on the strengths of District Four and working with diverse constituencies are issues of high priority.
She is married to Rev. Jose A. Encarnacion and is a mother to six sons.
